The Orangerie! The part of Longwood Gardens people think of when you say you are off to PA to see visit Longwood. The conservatory or main interior greenhouses are some of the biggest in the country - 4.5 ACRES of indoor heated greenhouses. (source) Pretty incredible right? You can see why I chose this place for an indoor photoshoot where we needed to showcase spring in november…

In the main orangerie you will find a variety of seasonal exhibitions - from the fall display of chrysanthemums, orchids in the early winter months, the holiday display (amazing) and we saw the tropical display in late summer.

There are some amazing plants that anchor these rooms, including this amazing plant that’s the size of a small house, giant fountains, the fern wall (bathroom area lol).

Let’s get to my favorite part of the indoor area. The orchid room. Saying I actually have seen quite a display of amazing orchids - living right near A+P Orchids, you have to have amaaazing orchids to impress me. This is worth driving to PA for in my opinion. Partly the setting, tucked away from the main rooms. The display is rotating to showcase just SOME of the amazing orchids they have… which makes returning to see what’s in bloom a fun thing. All my photos from my previous trips have almost not been repeated in terms of species of blooming orchids.

From the Longwood Gardens Website:

At any one time, the Orchid House displays 200–300 of the almost 6,000 orchids at Longwood Gardens. To ensure a continuous display, our orchid grower hand picks and replaces the plants three times a week with others from our five orchid growing houses.

The above might be one of my favorites - I love the fan shape, they look like little butterflies around the plant the way they hang off of the main hanging base.

The above here (the little yellow hanging ones) are some of my other favorites, in seeing just how cool it is that they have hundreds of tiny tiny flowers on there!
